Aber auch &#8220;Stadtfans&#8221; kommen auf ihre Kosten \u2013 zum Beispiel bei einem Rundgang durch die \u00e4u\u00dferst entspannte und historisch interessante Hauptstadt Ponta Delgada auf der Insel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olimar.de\/portugal\/azoren\/sao-miguel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S\u00e3o Miguel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ein guter Startpunkt daf\u00fcr ist die <strong>Igreja da M\u00e3e de Deus<\/strong>. Die Kirche, die im ersten Weltkrieg stark zerst\u00f6rt und anschlie\u00dfend im <strong>Neo-Barockstil<\/strong> wieder errichtet wurde, liegt auf einem H\u00fcgel im Osten der Stadt und bietet einen sch\u00f6nen Blick \u00fcber Ponta Delgada und Umgebung. Von hier aus l\u00e4sst es sich bequem bergab zur Markthalle Mercado da Gra\u00e7a laufen. Vor allem freitags und samstags trifft sich auf dem Markt morgens die Stadt und man bekommt einen \u00dcberblick \u00fcber die Produkte der Insel. Vor allem die Vielfalt an frischem Fisch ist beeindruckend. Und auch kulinarische Mitbringsel lassen sich hier prima shoppen \u2013 wie Honig oder transportsicher verpackte Ananas. Ihre Baugeschichte reicht bis ins 16. Jahrhundert zur\u00fcck, wo sie dem Schutzheiligen Sebastian aus Dankbarkeit f\u00fcr Hilfe gegen die Pest gewidmet wurde. Im 18. Jahrhundert wurde die urspr\u00fcnglich <strong>sp\u00e4tgotische Kirche<\/strong> um<strong> barocke Elemente<\/strong> erg\u00e4nzt. Wundersch\u00f6n sind im Innern die Sakristei mit ihren <strong>blauen Azulejo-Fliesen<\/strong> und die fein geschnitzten B\u00e4nke aus edlen H\u00f6lzern. Von der Kirche aus sieht man die<strong> drei B\u00f6gen des alten Stadttors, heute Wahrzeichen der Stadt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-1804 gallery-columns-3 Zum Barockbau geh\u00f6rt ein Glockenturm, den man kostenlos erklimmen kann \u2013 Achtung, super enges Treppenhaus! Das Christusbildnis in der Kapelle bildet den Mittelpunkt des <strong>Festa do Senhor Santo Christo dos Milagres, dem gr\u00f6\u00dften Kirchenfest der Azoren <\/strong>(ein Artikel hierzu folgt in K\u00fcrze an dieser Stelle!), zu dem die ganze Stadt und vor allem der Platz vor der Kirche mit Blumen und Lichtern geschm\u00fcckt wird. Beeindruckend auf dem Platz ist auch der riesige Eisenholzbaum mit seinen langen Luftwurzeln, der \u00fcber 140 Jahre alt ist. Nach diesem rund halbt\u00e4gigen Spaziergang durch Ponta Delgadas Altstadt hat man eine Pause verdient \u2013 zum Beispiel im hervorragenden Fischrestaurant &#8220;O Marinheiro&#8221; am Portas do Mar, der vor ein paar Jahren aufwendig gestalteten Promenade am Hafen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ein Tipp:<\/strong> Neben den h\u00fcbschen, oft barocken Fassaden mit wei\u00df get\u00fcnchten W\u00e4nden und Schmuckelementen aus Basalt sind auch die Gehwege in Ponta Delgada einen Blick wert.
